The SMSS has taken up sincere efforts to come to the rescue of distressed women. It has launched a programme called Swadhar. It is a scheme for women in difficult circumstances. This programme is being implemented by the SMSS at Gopalpur-on-sea near Old Age Home. The scheme has been introduced since June 2009. The scheme is meant to provide support base to the women who are in difficult circumstances. The scheme primarily provides shelter, food, clothing and care to the beneficiaries. Women under difficult circumstances are also provided with emotional support and counseling. They are also rehabilitated socially and economically through education, awareness, skill upgradation and personality development through behavioral training. The SMSS is also arranging for specific clinical, legal and networking with other organizations in both government and non-government sectors depending requirement on different cases. Keeping welfare of the distressed woman in view the SMSS is providing help line or other facilities to such women in distress.

In order to provide support and rehabilitation to the women in distress, vocational trainings in tailoring, computer and other trades are imparted to the distressed women, so that they can be able to be self-dependent in future. The SMSS has plans to set up small scale handicraft training-cum-production centre, papad making unit, food packaging, chocolate production unit and preparation of nutritious food like Dalia in future, in which the beneficiaries of Swadhar scheme can be benefited.

At present there are 50 inmates who are being provided with all sorts of help according to their requirement as per the scheme at Gopalpur-on-sea which is being run by the SMSS. The scheme is financed by Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
