Self-Help Groups Programme

Self Help Groups (SHGs) consist of women beneficiaries of Chakapad block under Kandhamal district. There are 85 such groups formed in the district. Each groups consists of around 10 to 15 members. In order to empower the women with livelihood support this scheme has been launched by the SMSS with full-fledged financial support from Amigos De Odisha. The main purpose of the scheme is to open up avenues or sources for income for the women belonging to weaker section of the society so that they can be able to feed their family on their own initiatives. The SMSS has only extended cooperation to them to bring them to the mainstream of the society thus paving way for their livelihood support.

This scheme was introduced by the Amigos De Odisha since 2006 and has been successfully implemented in Kandhamal by SMSS.

The beneficiaries of the scheme utilize the funds given to them in preparing incense sticks, spices, sattu (mixed eidle grains), leaf plates, resorting to mini diary, goatery, etc. The women are very much happy and leading peaceful life without any want.

They are now busy with their respective works without having any time to idle away. The Amigos De Odisha has now started surveying the living standard of the beneficiaries and plans are afoot to have a condensed milk unit in Kandhmal which will provide enough leverage to the diary farmers under SHGs scheme.
